Matheus Galvao is a name that resonates with success in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, both on and off the mats. With a deep passion for teaching and an impressive competition record, Matheus has become a respected figure in the Jiu Jitsu community. His journey began in Teixeira de Freitas, Bahia, Brazil, where he discovered his love for Jiu Jitsu at the age of 12.

Matheus’s story is one of passion, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to both his students and the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He has spent years developing his skills on the mats and in the classroom, continuously striving to improve and help others do the same.


A Journey Rooted in Passion and Dedication

Matheus began his BJJ journey in 2009, and by the age of 17, he was already teaching others as a blue belt. His early dedication to the art led to success in competitions across Brazil and internationally. Matheus earned his black belt in November 2020 under the mentorship of Rodrigo Araújo, the leader of the Simetria Fight Team in Brazil.

In pursuit of new challenges, Matheus moved to Texas after receiving his black belt and began teaching at another gym. Recently, he opened his own gym, Sixth Sense Martial Arts, where he continues to make a significant impact in the Jiu Jitsu community.


Competitive Achievements: A Force on the Mat

Matheus’s competitive success speaks for itself. With a strong performance history, he’s proven his abilities time and again, both in Gi and No-Gi competitions. Some of his most notable achievements include:

  • Third Place at the 2022 IBJJF No Gi Pan Ams (Adult Division)

  • First Place at the 2022 IBJJF Austin Winter International Open (Gi and No Gi)

Matheus's family plays a central role in his life. He is married to Mily, who is a white belt in Jiu Jitsu, and they have a young daughter named Malu. Matheus balances his professional life with his personal life, using his Jiu Jitsu journey as an opportunity to not only grow as an athlete but as a father and husband as well.
